The Pacific Oceania Davis Cup Team participated in Group B of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV event, held at the National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 16 to 17 July 2025. The team was drawn alongside Kuwait, Qatar, and the Philippines.
Throughout the competition, the team produced competitive performances, with several matches decided by narrow margins. Despite their consistent effort, Pacific Oceania was unable to secure a win in the group stage.
The event was efficiently organized by the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) in collaboration with the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Representing Pacific Oceania were:
- Nicholas Ngodrela (New Caledonia)
- Gillian Osmont (Tahiti)
- Maka Ofati (Tuvalu)
- Brett Baudinet (Cook Islands)
The team was captained by Aymeric Mara.
Performance Summary:
- Pacific Oceania competed in all scheduled group matches against Kuwait, Qatar, and the Philippines.
- Matches were closely contested, with several encounters extending to deciding sets.
- The doubles pairing of Brett Baudinet and Maka Ofati recorded multiple wins, demonstrating strong teamwork and consistency.
- Gillian Osmont sustained a hamstring injury during the tie, which limited his participation in subsequent matches; however, this is not stop him from giving his best when on court.
- Nicholas Ngodrela delivered competitive performances despite a recurring ankle issue affecting mobility.
- Maka Ofati, making his Davis Cup debut, showed promising form in both singles and doubles.
Conclusion
The Davis Cup Group IV tie in Malaysia was conducted to a high professional standard, providing valuable international exposure and experience for the Pacific Oceania team. While results did not favour the team this year, the event reinforced key learnings and highlighted emerging talent within the squad for future campaigns.
