” An invitation from Tennis Australia brought\ntogether representatives from the Pacific Oceania Tennis Community to\nMelbourne, Victoria, for the inaugural GVw2020 hosted by Global Victoria, an international business summit in Melbourne from\n5 to 8 March for women, coinciding with International Women\u2019s Day (and the ICC\nWomen\u2019s T20 World Cup final!).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was\nan opportunity to open doors, connect and engage with other female pioneers,\nbusiness leaders and game changers from around the world in the fields of\nSport, STEM, MedTech, Transport & Infrastructure, International Business\nand Government who continue to champion gender inclusive business\/sports world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pacific\nOceania region was represented by Davina Hosking-Ashford (Cook Islands), Irinieta\n(Donna) Neisau (Fiji), Roxanne Clark (ITF, Fiji), Sereima Lalavanua (Fiji) and Barbara\nStubbings (PNG). Sarah Sands (Vanuatu) was also invited but unable to attend\ndue to ill health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday\nmorning Vicki Reid, Tennis Australia\u2019s Head of Government and Stakeholder\nRelations addressed the Sports conference on Tennis Australia\u2019s international\nSporting diplomacy agenda and its activities in the Pacific promoting female\nempowerment and support. Vicki was later joined by Donna and Sereima who manage\nand deliver the PSP community tennis program in Fiji. The Fiji presentation was\nhonest and powerful, highlighting issues for women in sports, sports in the\nPacific and sport as a tool to promote development, respect and gender equality\nin our communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other presentations\ncentred around the role of the media in influencing women in sport,\nsustainability practices and the integration of Universal Design and\nAccessibility Principles for world class sports stadiums. followed by a tour of\nthe world class Collingwood FC Holden Centre, the oldest sporting club in\nAustralia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tennis\nAustralia then hosted the Pacific Delegates and their senior leadership\nrepresentatives, including Craig Tilley CEO of TA,. Discussions were held on\neach countries approach to attracting and retaining women in sport. The\ndelegates had fruitful discussions and engagement with the members of TA\u2019s\nMarketing, PR, Coaching, Development and Tournament teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday the\nVictorian Office for Sport and Recreation assembled a panel of leading\nthinkers, sports ambassadors and officials who shared their experiences and\ndiscussed the role of community sports in levelling the playing field for women\nand girls and driving cultural change. This was highlighted by the appearance\nof Billie Jean-King, tennis legend and long-time advocate for gender equality\nand social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pacific Delegation\nwere privileged to personally meet with Billi Jean King following her lunch\ninterview, courtesy of Vicki Reid and Tennis Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday,\nall delegates enjoyed the Regional Victoria visit to the Yarra Valley which\nincluded a tour of a Gin Distillery, Lunch at the Oak Ridge Estate and Wine\ntasting at the Tarra Warra Estate<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event\nconcluded on Sunday with our attendance at the Melbourne Fashion Festival,\nGlobal Indigenous Runway Show and Networking. A Yarra River Tour and Lunch\nCruise was followed up with an evening at the MCG for the ICC Women\u2019s T20 World\nCup Final, culminating with the Pink Concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A truly wonderful weekend with fellow Pacific delegates, sharing experiences, ideas, knowledge and learning together to ensure we continue to champion a gender inclusive, equal playing field for all. “<\/p>\n\n\n\n
