There was no event held due to Covid-19<\/p>\n

2019<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Players from Korea, Chinese Taipei and Japan dominated this event with only Pacific Oceania players Sean Lee (NMI) and Robbie Schoor (NMI) reaching the quarter finals of the Boy\u2019s singles. This was won by Yunseok Jang (KOR) who defeated Nan Hsun Lin (TPE) 61, 64\u2019.<\/p>\n

In the Doubles Final the Chinese Taipei pairing of Shu-Lun Chang (TPE)\/Hong-Lin Fu (TPE) defeated the Korean pairing of Yunseok Jang (KOR)\/Gyun Seop Sim (KOR) 26, 61, 10-6.<\/p>\n

The Girl\u2019s Singles Final was won by Manami Ukita (JPN) who defeated Hui-Gyeong Kim (KOR) 62, 62. The Doubles Final was won by Manami Ukita (JPN)\/Hui-Gyeong Kim (KOR) who defeated Qianyu Liu (CHN)\/ Manami Ukita (JPN) who defeated Kanami Hayashige (JPN)\/Rio Osoegawa (JPN) 62, 61.<\/p>\n

2018<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The 2017 IT & E Northern Marianas Junior Championships were again held on the hard courts of the Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio, Saipan from the 22nd<\/sup>-27th May.<\/p>\n

The Girl\u2019s events were dominated by local Carol Lee, seeded 1, who beat Wing Ka Lin (HKG) in the Girls\u2019 Singles Final 6-2, 6-1. She then teamed with her to win the Doubles Final against the Japanese pairing of Nanari Katsumi\/Mua Shigita 6-1, 6-2<\/p>\n

The Boy\u2019s Singles was won by the 4th<\/sup> seed, Chak Lam Coleman (HKG), who defeated the 3rd<\/sup> seed, Jose Antonio Tria (PHI), 6-4, 7-6 (9). The Boy\u2019s doubles was won by Guntinum Sootinun-Opart (THA)\/Chak Lam Coleman Wong (HKG) who defeated Minsung Kim\/Dong Gyu Oh (KOR) 7-6 (40, 6-7 (3) 10-7<\/p>\n

2017<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The 2017 IT & E Northern Marianas Junior Championships were again held on the hard courts of the Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio, Saipan from the 21st<\/sup>-28th May.<\/p>\n

As in the previous year all the finals were dominated by Japanese players. Shunsuke Mitsui(JPN) won both the Boy\u2019s Singles and Doubles. In the Singles Final he beat Ryotaro Koshiba 75,62. He then teamed with Kenjiro Shimizo(JPN) to beat the Chinese Taipei pairing of Hsiang Yu Chuang\/Yi Jui Lo 64,61<\/p>\n

Similarly in the Girl\u2019s Events, Otahi Aoki (JPN) won both the Girl\u2019s Singles and Doubles. In the Singles she beat fellow Japanese player Ai Yamaguchi 63, 61. The 2 Singles Finalists, Aoki and Yamaguchi then went on to win the Girl\u2019s Doubles beating Yun-Chen Hsieh\/Chao-Yi Wang(TPE) 61,26,10-7<\/p>\n

2016<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The 2016 IT & E Northern Marianas Junior Championships were again held on the hard courts of the Pacific Islands club in San Antonio, Saipan from the 15th<\/sup>-22nd<\/sup> May.<\/p>\n

The Event was dominated by Japanese players in the Boy\u2019s and Girl\u2019s Events and a few players from Chinese Taipei in the Girl\u2019s Events. Both Carol Lee (NMI) and Ayana Rengiil (PAL) reached the quarter finals of their respective Singles matches before Ayana Rengiil (PAL) lost to the top seed and eventual winner, Rika Tanaka (JPN), 76(3), 60 and Carol Lee (NMI) to the 4th<\/sup> seed, Yuelin Chen (TPE) 60, 06, 76(5). In the Doubles Carol Lee and Ayana Rengiil lost their quarter-final match to Yuna Fukumoro\/Haruka Hoshino (JPN) 46, 64, 10-5.<\/p>\n

In the Boy\u2019s Singles Final, top seed Yang Meng (TPE) beat unseeded Seita Watanabe 62, 75. The Doubles Final was won by the Japanese pairing of Kai Kawano\/Seita Watanabe who beat their compatriots Tsubasa\/Yusuke Miyai (JPN) 36, 63, 11-9<\/p>\n

2015: <\/strong><\/span>SAIPAN, NMI-MAY 2015<\/p>\n

The 2015 IT & E Northern Marianas Junior Championships were again held on the hard courts of the Pacific Islands club in San Antonio, Saipan. All 4 Singles and doubles events were dominated by Japanese players with the only Pacific Success coming in the girl\u2019s Doubles from Mikayla Lopez (NMI)\/Ayana Rengiil (PAL) who were beaten in the quarter-final by the Japanese pairing of Funa Kozaki\/Yuki Naito 6-1, 6-1. Another Japanese pairing, top seeds Sukara Hondo\/Ayano Shimizu beat their compatriots Funa Kozaki\/Yuki Naito in the final 6-4, 6-4.<\/p>\n

The Boy\u2019s Doubles final was also won by a Japanese pairing, 4th<\/sup> seeds Tomohiro Masabayashi \/Kento Yamada who beat the 2nd<\/sup> seeds, Singaporean pairing of Shahhed Alam\/ Sherwin Foo 6-3, 1-6, (10-8).<\/p>\n

The Boy\u2019s Final was an all Japanese affair that saw 7th<\/sup> seed Rimpei Kawakami beat his compatriot Tomohiro Masabayashi 6-1, 6-3. Similarly the Girl\u2019s Singles Final saw 2 Japanese girls competing for the title with unseeded Yuki Naito defeating 3rd<\/sup> seed Ayano Shimizu 6-3, 7-5<\/p>\n

2014:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In the Boy\u2019s Singles, Colin Ramsay (NMI) was the only Pacific Oceania player to advance to the 2nd<\/sup> round after beating Selya Eda (JPN) 7-5,6-3 before losing to the 3rd<\/sup> seed in the 2nd<\/sup> round. Jake Lee (NMI) distinguished himself in the Boy\u2019s singles consolation by reaching the final before being beaten by Yuki Watanabe 4-0,4-0<\/p>\n

In the Girl\u2019s Singles Ayana Rengiil (PAL) beat Negahr Rasguiy (NMI) in a very tight 3 set match 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 before losing in the 2nd<\/sup> round to Sing-Le Fan (TPE) who had earlier caused a major upset by beating the 2nd<\/sup> seed, Yuri Katano (JPN) convincingly 6-0, 6-1. Tammy Ackerman (NMI) won the Girl\u2019s consolation Event defeating Maine Hiramatsu (JPN) in the final 6-3, 6-1. In the Girl\u2019s Doubles Event, two teams from Pacific Oceania had 1st<\/sup> round wins. Tammy Ackerman (NMI) and Ayana Rengiil (PAL) beat Yuno Fukumuro and Azusa Yasaki (JPN) 6-4, 6-3 before losing to the 2nd<\/sup> seeds from Thailand in the second round. Also the team of Mikayla Lopez and Negahr Rastguiy (NMI) beat the team of Haruka Okawara and Minori Otsuka (JPN) 6-3, 6-4 before losing their 2nd<\/sup> round match.<\/p>\n

The 2014 IT&E Northern Marianas Junior championship was again held on the hard courts of the Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio, Saipan. Undoubted Pacific Oceania stand out player was Ayana Rengiil (PAL) who won her first round matches in both Singles and doubles to gain ITF World Ranking points.<\/p>\n

Pat O’Rourke, the Referee for the inaugural ITF Junior Circuit event in the North Pacific, reports that “the IT&E Northern Mariana Islands Junior Championships concluded at the Pacific Islands Club in Saipan 26th May.<\/p>\n

The hot sunny conditions continued for the final day of competition. The boys final saw two wildcard entries, Jackie Tang (HKG) and Francisco Blanco Paris (ESP), battle it out. The match was a contrast of styles between the consistent and quick Tang and the flamboyant hitting of Blanco. The first set was full of thrilling points and went all the way to a tiebreaker. A couple of outstanding shots from Tang saw him clinch it 7-3. In the second set he raced away from his Spanish opponent who was visibly tiring after a series of long matches on the previous days.<\/p>\n

The girls singles was won by third seed Mei Otsuka from Japan who beat compatriot Izumi Asano 6-2 6-2. The girls competition was dominated by Japan who had three players in the singles semi-finals and also both pairs in the doubles final.Otsuka combined with Yuri Katano to take the girls doubles final over Asano and Miyu Hashimoto.<\/p>\n

In the final match of the day Tang returned to the court for boys doubles partnered by Yu Hao Lin (CHN) against the top seeds Chak Yin Chan (HKG) and Kennosuke Nouchi (JPN). The top seeds raced through the first set and looked good early in the second with a break. However Tang and Yu fought back to claim the set and force a deciding match tiebreak. A couple of magnificent returns of serve from Chan gave the top seeds the early lead which they held to take the tiebreak 10-5 and the title.<\/p>\n

North Pacific players had some success and also gained a lot of experience from participating in the tournament. Five players will come away with ITF world junior rankings for the first time including\u00a0 Ayana Rengiil, the first player from Palau to gain a ranking. Thea Minor also had the distinction of beating an Australian player to win the girls consolation singles.<\/p>\n

The tournament was a great success with players from Asia, Africa, Europe, USA and\u00a0 three Oceania nations participating. All who came enjoyed the great atmosphere and will be looking forward to the 2014 event.”<\/p>\n

The IT & E Northern Marianas Open Junior Championships are nearing the Finals and Referee, Pat O’ Rourke, reports that ” Yesterday, Friday saw some exciting quarter-final matches with players from\u00a04 different nations making the semi-finals of the Boys Singles while Japan dominated the girls quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

In a three hour epic un-seeded Jesse Delaney from Australia outlasted Korean giant killer\"Jesse<\/a>\u00a0(pictured Jesse Delaney)<\/p>\n

Hyuk Chung 76(5) 63 to make his first ever semi-final. Chung had played through qualifying and beaten the top seed in the first round of the main draw. Wildcard entry Francisco Blanco Paris from Spain upset the second seed Chak Yin Chan to get through and was joined by Yong Seak Jank (Korea) and Jackie Tang (Hog Kong).<\/p>\n

In the girls singles top seed Katrina Orteza (PHI) showed her class winning her quarter-final comfortably against Sachi Belwal. Joining her in the semifinals will be three Japanese players Mei Otsuka, Yuri Katano and unranked Izumi Asano. Asano was impressive in her win over German Vivien Klein with her aggressive play.<\/p>\n

Local North Pacific players have had success with three girls reaching the doubles quarterfinals.
