The Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team of Abigail Tere-Apisah (PNG), Steffi Carruthers (SAM), Violet Apisah (PNG), Carol Lee (NMI) and Captain, Gilles de Gouy (TAH) journeyed to Astana, Kazakhstan in the week commencing 4th<\/sup> February for the 2019 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Asia\/Oceania Zone Group I Tie played indoors at the National Tennis Centre.<\/p>\n

There were 7 teams with 2 Pools, with Pacific Oceania being drawn into the same Pool as China, Korea and Indonesia<\/p>\n

Pool A<\/u><\/strong>: Kazakhstan, India, Thailand<\/p>\n

Pool B:<\/u><\/strong> China, Korea, Indonesia, Pacific Oceania
\nOn the opening day of Pool Play, Pacific Oceania lost 3-0 to top seed in their pool, China , with Violet Apisah losing her # 2 Singles match to Zhaoxuan (CHN) 64,64; Abigail Tere-Apisah then lost her #1 Singles Match to Shuai Zhang (CHN) 61, 62 with the Pacific Oceania Doubles pairing of Steffi Carruthers\/Abigail Tere-Apisah losing their Doubles match to Yifan Xu\/Saisai Zheng 36, 63 , 64.<\/p>\n

In their 2nd<\/sup> Pool Match, Pacific Oceania lost to Indonesia 3-0 with Violet Apisah losing to Aldila Sutjiadi 64,62; Abigail Tere-Apisah losing her # 1 Singles match to Beatrice Gumulya 64,26, 64 and the Doubles pairing of Steffi Carruthers\/Abigail Tere-Apisah losing to Deria Nur Haliza\/Jessy Rompies 64,64<\/p>\n

In the final Round Robin Pool match, Pacific Oceania lost to Korea 3-0 with Carol Lee losing her #2 Singles match to Su Jeong Jang 62,61; Abigail Tere-Apisah losing her #1 Singles match to Na-Lee Han 61,57,63 and in the Doubles Steffi Crruthers\/Carol Lee losing to Su Jeong Jang\/Na Ri Kim 62,63.<\/p>\n

The Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team were relegated to Group II-Asia\/Oceania for 2020 following their 7th place. The Tie was eventually won by Kazakhstan who beat China 2-1 who went on to play Great Britain in the Play Offs on 20-21 April 2019.<\/p>\n

The Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team of Abigail Tere-Apisah (PNG), Steffi Carruthers (SAM), Carol Lee (NMI) and Captain, Gilles de Gouy (TAH) journeyed to Isa Town, Bahrain in February 2018 for the 2018 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Asia\/Oceania Zone Group II Tie.<\/p>\n

Pacific Oceania, ranked 61, was drawn in Pool C with the respective pools and rankings below in brackets. The winners of each pool would play off against each other (A1 v C1) and B1 v D1) to determine which 2 Nations would advance to Asia\/Oceania Zone Group 1 in 2019<\/p>\n

The Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team under new Captain\/Coach, Gilles de Gouy (TAH) made the perfect start in their opening Match against Iran in Pool Play. With the Pacific Oceania #1 player, Abigail Tere-Apisah(PNG), being rested, Captain Gilles de Gouy opted to play Carol Lee (NMI) and #1 and Steffi Carruthers (SAM) at #2.<\/p>\n

Both won their Singles Matches 6-1,6-0 to take an unassailable 2-0 lead before the pairing of Abigail Tere-Apish\/Steffi Carruthers beat their Iranian opponents 6-0,6-0<\/p>\n

On Day 2 the Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team convincingly beat Oman 3-0 to set up a crucial match against 3rd<\/sup> seeds, Malaysia. Carol Lee, playing #2 won her singles 6-0, 6-0; Abigail Tere-Apisah 7-6, 6-4 before combining with Steffi Carruthers to win their doubles 6-0,6-1<\/p>\n

Then in the crucial match against Malaysia, Steffi Carruthers, playing at #2 won the opening rubber 7-6(6), 7-6 (5) before Apisah Tere-Apisah won her singles 6-2, 6-0 and then combined with Steffi Carruthers to win the doubles 6-4, 6-2. The\u00a0Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team went through Pool Play without dropping a set to win their Pool convincingly. This then set up the play=off match against 5th<\/sup> seeds, Singapore, with the winner being promoted to Group 1 in 2019.<\/p>\n

Then on Saturday 10th<\/sup> February 2018 the Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team of Abigail Tere-Apisah (PNG), Steffi Carruthers (SAM), Carol Lee (NMI) and captain Gilles de Gouy (TAH) rewrote Fed Cup and Pacific Oceania Tennis history. In the play-offs for promotion to Group I in 2019, Pacific Oceania beat Singapore 2-1 to be promoted to Group 1 in 2019. Steffi Carruthers, playing at #2, lost the opening rubber 6-4, 6-4 before Abigail Tere-Apisah came back from a set down to level the Tie 1-1 with a win 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Then in the deciding doubles Abigail Tere-Apisah and Steffi Carruthers convincingly won 6-1, 6-1.<\/p>\n

2017:<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team of Abigail Tere-Apisah PNG), \u00a0Steffi Carruthers (SAM), Carol Lee (NMI), Mayka Zima (TAH) and Patrice Cotti (TAH)- captain travelled to Dushanbe, Tajikistan in July for the Asia\/Oceania Group II Fed Cup Event. 13 teams competed and they were drawn into 3 pools of 3 teams and 1 pool of 4 teams<\/p>\n

Pacific Oceania was drawn into Pool B with Iran and 2nd<\/sup> seeds, Hong Kong. In their opening Tie with Iran they made the perfect start beating Iran 3-0. Steffi Carruthers, playing #2, won her match 64,62 against Yasmin Mansouri before Abigail Tere-Apisah (#1) beat her opponent, Sara Amiri,\u00a063,60. In the doubles Carol Lee, playing her first Fed Cup match, teamed with Mayka Zima to beat Ghazal Pakbaten\/Sadaf Sadeghvaziri 26,63, 62<\/p>\n

In the decisive Tie to move to the Promotion Play-Offs, Pacific Oceania lost to 2nd seeds, Hong Kong, in a very tightly fought Tie 3-0 with the final score line not reflecting the closeness. Steffi Carruthers lost her singles 75,63; Abigail Tere-Apisah similarly 64,64 and Carol Lee\/Mayka Zima lost the doubles 64,64. \u00a0In the positional Play-Offs, Pacific Oceania Fed Cup finished a very\u00a0creditable 5th equal and finished 2017 ranked #62 in the world. On the final day of play Pacific Oceania convincingly beat Singapore 3-0 to earn their 5th<\/sup> equal placing. Hong Kong beat Uzbekistan 2-1 in the play off for promotion to Group I<\/p>\n

The Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team finished 6th in the play-off for 5th\/6th position Final Standings<\/a>\u00a0on the final day of play in Hua Hin, Thailand. Pacific Oceania were beaten by 2nd seeds, Indonesia 2-0 (doubles not played)Saturday Results<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the week Pacific Oceania came 3rd in their Pool A Round Robin Draws Pool A<\/a> and played the 3rd place team in Pool B Draws Pool B<\/a>\u00a0in this play-off for 5th\/6th position with the overall round Robin Points Draw Standings<\/a><\/p>\n

2015:<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Pacific Oceania Team finished a creditable 5th<\/sup> from 11 competing Nations at the SAAP Tennis complex in Hyderabad, India in April 2015. The format was an initial round robin with 3 pools of 3 team (Pools B, C and D) and 1 pool of 2 teams (Pool A). Pacific Oceania were drawn in Pool D with Indonesia, the 4th<\/sup> seed and Sri Lanka. The Pacific Oceania Team was Steffie Carruthers (SAM) ranked 1043, Abigail Tere-Apisah (PNG), Brittany Teei (CI) and captain Patrice Cotti (TAH)<\/p>\n

On the opening day of play Pacific Oceania were drawn to play the 4th<\/sup> seeds Indonesia, eventually losing 3 matches to 0. The opening\u00a0rubber started well for Pacific Oceania with #2 player Abigail Tere-Apisah winning the 1st set 6-2 before eventually losing the match 2-6,6-1, 6-3 to Lavinia Tananta, ranked #885 in the world. Apisah had 13 break-point opportunities throughout the match but was only able to convert 5 of these.<\/p>\n

In the 2nd\u00a0rubber #1 player Steffie Carruthers, who had earlier in the week been suffering severe illness,\u00a0was beaten 6-2, 6-0 by Deria Nur Haliza, ranked #884 in the world. Carruthers only had 1 break point chance in the match with her opponent converting 5 of the 9 chances she had.<\/p>\n

In the dead doubles rubber The Pacific Oceania Doubles team of Brittany Teei\/Abigail Tere-Apisah lost 6-0,6-2. They had 6 break point opportunities but were unable to convert any of these compared to their opponents who converted 5 of the 9 opportunities that they had.<\/p>\n

In their final pool match against Sri Lanka, Abigail Tere-Apisah got Pacific Oceania off to a great start beating Medhira Samarasinghe in 57 minutes 6-0, 6-3. Whilst her 1st serve was only 52% she was able to convert 5 of 9 break point opportunities compared to her opponent’s 1 of 2.<\/p>\n

#1 Pacific Oceania Player, Steffie Carruthers who had been struggling with tonsillitis in the first round, finally prevailed in a 2hr 09min 3 set match against her opponent Thisuri Molligoda in the 2nd rubber 6-2, 6-7(5); 6-1 to give Pacific Oceania an unassailable lead before Steffi Carruthers and Brittany Teei won their dead doubles rubber 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.<\/p>\n

In the play off for 5th<\/sup> position Pacific Oceania convincingly defeated Singapore 3-0. Abigail Tere-Apisah comprehensively won the 1st rubber against Angeline Devi Devanthiran 6-0,6-3 in 1hr 04 min before #1 Pacific Oceania player, Steffie Carruthers, gave Pacific Oceania an unassailable lead by winning the 2nd rubber 6-2, 6-0 converting 6 of 8 break points<\/p>\n

Then in the Doubles Brittany Teei and Abigail Tere-Apisah convincingly won 6-0, 6-3 in just over 1 hour<\/p>\n

After a 10 year gap Pacific Oceania are back in Fed Cup which commences on Tuesday 14th April in Hyderabad, India\"\"<\/p>\n

The Pacific Oceania Fed Cup Team have received a reasonably favourable draw when play starts at 4:30pm\u00a0 at the SAAP Tennis Complex at Hyderabad, India<\/p>\n

The format is a round-robin with 3 pools of 3 teams (Pools B,C and D) and 1 pool of 2 teams (Pool A)<\/p>\n

The winner of Pool A will play the winner of Pool C and the winner of Pool B will play the winner of Pool D in the 1st round of Play-Offs. The winners of those matches will play-off to determine which nation will be promoted to Asia\/Oceania Zone Group I in 2016. Only 1 team will be\u00a0 promoted.<\/p>\n
